    Tbe company has received Global Certification Forum validation of 5G LBS Assisted-Galileo test case

    Keysight Technologies Inc. has gained Global Certification Forum (GCF) validation of a 5G location-based services (LBS) assisted-Galileo (A-Galileo) test case by combining 5G new radio (NR) and GNSS technology.

    The achievement will accelerate implementation of LBS in smartphones by enabling mobile phone vendors to verify that designs comply to the latest 3GPP specifications that support accurate location positioning in a wide range of sectors.

    Sectors include healthcare, road and aerial transportation, emergency and rescue services, public safety, and homeland security.  Highly precise positioning services also enable mobile operators to deliver personalized services supporting entertainment, hospitality and retail applications.

    LBS leverages different technologies, including GNSS, beamforming and round-trip time to geographically locate a user. LBS test cases allow users to verify sensitivity, accuracy and dynamic range in mobile phones that leverage GNSS constellations to identify precise geographic location.

    GCF conformance agreement group meeting #72, held Oct. 21, confirmed the validation of the first 5G LBS A-Galileo test case, which was supported by Keysight’s S8705A RF/RRM DVT and Conformance Toolset. The toolset provides access to a wide range of radio frequency, radio resource management, and development validation test cases used to verify 5G NR designs in both non-standalone and standalone deployment modes.

    The S8705A toolset uses the E7515B UXM 5G Wireless Test Platform, a compact signaling test platform with multi-format stack support, rich processing power and abundant RF resources for emulating various mobility scenarios in a 5G network as well as a recommended GNSS emulator to deliver the LBS test case.

    Keysight Technologies Inc. is collaborating with DEKRA to ensure that chipset and device vendors can validate E112 caller location (universal European emergency number) functionality in compliance to a new European Union (EU) regulation.

    The collaboration leverages GNSS and c (LBS) to verify E112 regulatory test cases used to validate mobile phones sold into the European market. The new regulation supports emergency services across the European Union by reducing response times from rescue services to save more lives.

    “Keysight is pleased to expand the company’s collaboration with DEKRA,” said Muthu Kumaran, general manager of Keysight’s Device Validation Solutions business. “With Keysight’s test solutions, DEKRA supports a global ecosystem of smartphone vendors by validating that their products are in compliance to the new regulation, newly created to improve emergency services’ ability to locate individuals in need of assistance from the fire brigade, medical teams or the police.”

    Keysight’s network emulation solutions enable DEKRA to validate E112-related test cases regulated by an EU-issued guideline document to assist notified bodies in the assessment of E112 compliance. The new EU regulation (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/320) went into effect on March 17, 2022. It mandates that all new mobile phones sold in the EU need to support GNSS technology based on the Galileo constellation, advanced mobile location (AML) protocol and Wi-Fi communications technology. As a result, emergency response call centers can accurately pinpoint the caller’s location.

    “DEKRA is founded on the principles of safeguarding human interaction with technology and environment,” said Juan Carlos Mora, vice president, Business Line Connectivity of Service Division, Product Testing at DEKRA. “This is why we are pleased to extend our collaboration with Keysight, which offers DEKRA the regulatory device test solutions needed to quickly and confidently validate E112 caller location functionality per the EU’s latest mandatory requirements.”

    Keysight’s device test solutions for regulatory and conformance validation are based on common hardware and software platforms for comprehensive test-case coverage. Keysight’s LBS solutions also support assisted GNSS (A-GNSS) test functionality. This enables users to comprehensively address 5G new radio (NR) conformance requirements mandated by the Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PTCRB, an organization comprised of North American mobile operators.

    DEKRA uses Keysight’s RF/RRM DVT & Conformance ToolsetRF Automation Toolset and Wireless IoT Regulatory Test Solution to address 5G and internet of things (IoT) device regulatory requirements and SA8700A C-V2X Test Solution to certify cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) devices.

  • GCF and TTA announce global certification solution for oneM2M

    The Global Certification Forum (GCF) and Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) will launch a global certification solution for global internet of things (IoT) standards body oneM2M in early 2019, as part of its work to increase interoperability to the IoT ecosystem.

    The solution, which will incorporate oneM2M’s current TTA-run certification program, recognizes the critical importance of mobile technologies in IoT-enabled M2M solutions — a trend that is set to accelerate with the advent of 5G.

    oneM2M certification through GCF will be key to ensuring proper functionality and compliance with industry standards for fast, efficient, and secure IoT solutions in the connected world, GCF said.

    Technologies which comply with oneM2M standards will ensure seamless connectivity and interoperability with back-end networks, as well as allowing for safe and secure transactions. TTA’s mission is to support global oneM2M certification services and will significantly benefit the IoT and M2M industry.

    “This development underlines GCF’s expertise in developing certification programmes for advanced mobile technologies in industry verticals,” said Lars Nielsen, general manager at GCF. “It complements our strategy of expansion from core telecoms technologies into IoT applications to service the emerging 5G ecosystem. GCF is collaborating with world class organisations such as oneM2M and TTA to enable the growth and proliferation of the IoT connected devices ecosystem.”

    oneM2M is a global organization which creates technical specifications, common use cases and architectural principles to ensure that machine-to-machine communications can operate effectively on a worldwide scale. oneM2M architecture is based on a common M2M service layer, which can be readily embedded within vendors’ hardware and software solutions, ensuring interoperability between the myriad of IoT devices in the field and M2M application servers worldwide.

    “GCF’s work with TTA highlights the growing global momentum for tested interoperability in IoT devices and applications,” said Patrick Van de Wille, marcom chair at oneM2M. “Our membership numbers are steadily increasing as organisations recognise the benefits of reducing the complexity through a global standard.     TTA has been the at the fore of oneM2M certification since 2014 and is the official oneM2M testing and certification organization.

    The announcement is the culmination of work TTA has carried out to expand the testing and certification service, keeping up-to-date with oneM2M standards and providing feedback on the standards by collaborating with overseas testing institutes.

    “We are extremely pleased to have this partnership with GCF that supports the increasing importance of oneM2M standardisation in the global IoT market,” said Park-Jae-Moon, president of TTA. “This is a critical milestone in our journey from setting up the very first oneM2M certification solution for Korea, to meet regional needs.     Rohde & Schwarz expands tester and simulator for V2X standard

    Rohde & Schwarz has expanded the capabilities of its R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester and R&S SMBV100A GNSS simulator to support Global Certification Forum (GCF) protocol conformance tests for C-V2X device certification.

    Utilizing the Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset solution from Qualcomm Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, the R&S CMW500 acting as LTE network simulator now allows automakers to test C-V2X direct communications (PC5) according to GCF Work Item 281.

    3GPP Release 14 specifies the direct communications specifications for C-V2X PC5, which enables vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) safety applications, and does so without a mobile cellular subscription or network assistance and operates in ITS bands 46D (5.8 GHz) and 47 (5.9 GHz).

    The new R&S CMW-KK550 test package includes the 3GPP Protocol Conformance tests from LTE-V2V GCF Work Item 281 and LTE-V2X GCF Work Item 282. As recently announced, the R&S CMW-KU514 C-V2X software package on the R&S CMW500 is used to verify data transmission and reception over the PC5 interface in ideal, faded and congested channel conditions. Together, both packages enable Rohde & Schwarz to support C-V2X device testing through all protocol layers.

    C-V2X device testing is a significant step towards achieving the goal of having fully connected and autonomous vehicles to improve public safety and increase traffic efficiency.

    C-V2X, including direct communications for safety applications, nicely and synergistically complements network-based communications that deliver telematics services and various use cases for connected infotainment and over-the-air software updates.

    “C-V2X PC5 radio technology has quickly advanced to a pre-commercial stage, and Rohde & Schwarz is pleased to be the first test equipment vendor to offer a comprehensive C-V2X test suite,” said Anton Messmer, vice president of mobile radio testers at Rohde & Schwarz. “The automobile industry can now verify functionality and performance of C-V2X devices, as well as start device testing as per 3GPP protocol conformance tests.”
