The comprehensive platform features transmit and receive capabilities with high efficiency and output power, enabling reliable network connections while optimizing battery life — both critical for 5G applications.

In addition, the Sky5 Ultra leverages DSBGA packaging to reduce the footprint and advanced TC-SAW and BAW filtering to provide the best performance at each targeted frequency band.

The solution also supports up to 100-MHz wide bandwidth, maximizing data throughput at ultra-fast speeds.

5G rollouts have already begun and will continue to ramp over the next few years. According to the Global Mobile Suppliers Association, 11 worldwide operators have announced limited 5G service launches and seven additional operators have turned on 5G base stations, with commercial services to follow.

“With industry momentum accelerating towards 5G, Skyworks is leading the way with the technological innovations and systems expertise demonstrated by our Sky5 portfolio, a highly flexible and customizable suite designed to meet customers’ global requirements,” said Joel King, senior vice president and general manager of Mobile Solutions at Skyworks.

“Sky5 Ultra represents another breakthrough in simplifying the growing complexity of 5G device development — delivering unmatched performance while expediting deployment through full integration and optimized form factors. We are empowering top mobile device manufacturers and network providers with complete, turnkey solutions that will ultimately bring 5G to realization,” King said.

Skyworks has unveiled two new GNSS low-noise amplifier (LNA) front-end modules. The SKY65933-11 and SKY65943-11 both integrate Skyworks’ proprietary TC-SAW filters.

The modules are designed specifically for internet of things (IoT) applications including smartwatches, action cameras, drones, asset trackers and personal navigation devices. athey are designed for wireless module and IoT device manufacturers, providing a turnkey GNSS connectivity solution in a compact form factor.

    Both solutions offer:

    • integrated pre- and post-filter, LNA and matching to reduce PCB area versus a discrete implementation
    • single DC supply for design flexibility and simplicity
    • multi-GNSS compatibility to cover GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, COMPASS (BeiDou) and QZSS receiver applications in the 1559-1606 MHz frequency range
    • extremely low leakage current (1 uA max) benefitting battery-powered IoT devices
    • highly manufacturable and low-cost surface-mount technology (SMT) in a 2.5 x 2.5 mm multi-chip module (MCM) package.

    SKY65933-11:

    • Fully integrates all functional blocks, no external components required
    • Supply range: 1.5 to 2.85 V
    • Package: 16L 2.5 x 2.5 mm

    SKY65943-11:

    • Exceptional out-of-band rejection and P1dB compression point
    • Supply range: 1.62 to 3.3 V
    • Package: 10L 2.5 x 2.5 mm
  • Skyworks launches GNSS front-end modules with integrated filters

Skyworks Solutions, which manufactures analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, has launched three low-noise amplifier (LNA) front-end modules with integrated filters for GNSS. The devices are designed to provide high linearity, excellent gain, a high 1-dB input compression point and a superior noise figure.

The pre-filters provide the low in-band insertion loss and integrated notch filtering for excellent rejection of desired frequency bands.

    Each device is supplied in small-footprint, surface-mount technology multi-chip module packaging — 1.1 x 1.5 x 0.7 millimeters for the SKY65713-11, and 1.7 x 2.3 x 0.7 millimeters for the SKY65715-81.

The SKY65713-11 and SKY65715-81 both support products integrating GNSS functionality such as smartphones, personal navigation devices, wearables, machine-to-machine (M2M) systems, base stations, asset tracking instruments, professional radios and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Both are designed for BeiDou and GPS receiver applications.
