  • SuperSurv mobile app increases RTCM 3.1 support

Makers of the mobile GIS app SuperSurv, developed by Supergeo Technologies Inc., are working to increase its GNSS positioning functionality.

In recent weeks, the SuperSurv product team began to enhance SuperSurv’s NTRIP solution, aiming to adopt more RTCM versions and provide a better GNSS positioning service. NTRIP (Networked Transport of RTCM via internet protocol) is a protocol to send GNSS-related data through the internet, which enables users of differential GPS or network RTK to get correction parameters after connecting to the internet. The correction parameters can be used to calculate a more accurate GNSS location.

Supergeo’s product team is developing the support for RTCM 3.1, including Type 1021 and 1023, two kinds of messages. Type 1021 contains the seven parameters for 3-axis coordinate transformation — three for 3-axis translation, another three for 3-axis rotation and a scale factor.

Through the original projection method, users can only get rough coordinates. However, with NTRIP solution, users can send the current location to the server and then receive the parameters provided by it. This makes it easier to obtain a suitable local coordinates frame for more precise coordinates.

The Type 1023 message provides more accurate grid residuals. By establishing a 4 x 4 mask window around the rover, users will receive the 3-axis corrections within these 16 grids. Accordingly, a more accurate GNSS positioning is achievable after interpolation.

After completing the development, this technique will be implemented in the current version, SuperSurv 10.1. Combined with SuperSurv’s existing GIS features, Supergeo believes the newly supported RTCM 3.1 will bring a brand-new experience to fieldworkers.

Launched in November 2017, current version 10.1 offers three major new features, including snapping, coordinate system customization and Layerset. Google Maps and TIFF are also supported.

Supergeo’s product manager for mobile GIS, Zara Yu, recommend that users activate the point-data auto-collection with RTCM 3.1. This method not only helps users skip repeated operations but also enhances the data quality and efficiency.

SuperSurv can be downloaded and tried at no cost. Online tutorials are also available.

  • SuperPad GIS App to Receive NTRIP Solution

SuperPad_NTRIPGIS software provider Supergeo will release an NTRIP solution on SuperPad, its Windows Mobile GIS app, for high-accuracy field data collection and geospatial workflow enhancement.

SuperPad is a feature-rich mobile GIS application for field-based personnel to collect, edit, display and measure spatial data. The flexible development environment and customized extensions enable users to create a custom platform. SuperPad supports synchronizing data with an enterprise’s server to improve efficiency.

SuperPad version 3.3 will support an NTRIP solution with RTK technology. Real-time kinematic (RTK) satellite navigation, one of the latest and widely used technologies within the field of differential GNSS, significantly enhances the precision of the positioning data. RTK positioning can raise accuracy to the centimeter-level.

With the NTRIP solution, SuperPad is not only be capable of handling post-process DGNSS workflow, but also allows users to connect to network RTK service providers with NTRIP protocol, such as a virtual reference station RTK service provider or private station services. Its operations for turning on the module and quick-to-use settings will save surveyors time, while supporting GNSS receivers from makers such as  u-blox, Hemisphere GNSS and NovAtel.

Progress of the SuperPad NTRIP Extension is also visualized as a condition monitoring informer on the map intuitively. Users looking for high accuracy or precision status with the RTK correction will find more details about the fixing mode and GNSS information presented clearly with the renewed GPS Status pages.

A free trial of SuperPad can be downloaded here. A webinar about SuperPad is available here.

  • Connect with Bluetooth GNSS Devices Using SuperSurv

SuperSurv_measureTo meet the needs of high-accuracy field data collection and better workflow with modern GNSS technology, Supergeo’s latest SuperSurv GIS mapping app allows users to connect with and operate external Bluetooth GNSS devices. The app also elevates field-work efficiency with new averaging algorithms.

SuperSurv is designed for field data collection on Android and iOS-powered devices. Integrating with GIS and GPS technologies, SuperSurv provides functions like Map Display, Query, Measure, and supports to overlay OpenStreetMap as the basemap. Also, users can capture point, line and polygon features and attribute data, and save the data as SHP or GEO format in both offline and online modes.

With the new external GNSS device connection function, users can choose between internal positioning information and an outer GNSS source via Bluetooth. When pairing the GNSS receiver with an Android device, SuperSurv allows users to fully control and present detailed messages of navigation within system status. In addition, data collection via GNSS is enhanced with options such as a coordinate data averaging function or vertex collecting threshold, bringing users modernized and highly accurate field survey experience.

The external GNSS device connection and advanced data-collecting functions are fully supported and available with the SuperSurv Pro version. For SuperSurv M3 users, the newly added functions come as an optional plug-in that users can purchase and download.

Supergeo Technologies, a global provider of GIS software and solutions, is assisting Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, in analyzing  public bike system networks. SuperGIS Desktop 3.2 is helping administrators and citizens conveniently use the public transportation system for bicycles, the company said. Kaohsiung City has decided to provide its citizens with public bikes.

Biking is a popular transportation method and personal leisure activity for the people of Kaohsiung City. Determining where to establish bike stops that will attract locals to use the bikes, without affecting the current busy traffic patterns, is the most important issue for administrators.

The dilemma facing administrators is that bike stops shoud be near facilities, and the distance between each stop shouldn’t be too far. Through GIS technologies, decision makers can easily overlay the different layers that show diverse impact factors, such as nearby subway and train stations, and the most used pick-up and return routes.

Also, SuperGIS Desktop 3.2 provides rich spatial analysis functions. With the buffer analysis, for instance, various factors can be analyzed and displayed so administrators can optimize the vehicle supplement.
