    SAASM Receiver

FlexPak-S-front-WNovAtel’s SPAN GNSS/INS technology is now available on the company’s OEM625S dual-frequency SAASM GPS plus civil RTK receiver. SPAN offers system developers with SAASM requirements the benefit of continuously available 3D positioning, velocity and attitude (roll, pitch, yaw) for their defense applications. Authorized defense customers need access to the Precise Positioning Service (PPS) for DOD applications. When keyed, the existing OEM625S board-level receiver provides an RTK PPS solution by taking the raw measurements from an L-3 XFACTOR SAASM and applying them to NovAtel’s RTK algorithm. SPAN technology couples NovAtel’s precision GNSS receivers with robust IMUs to provide a more reliable, stable solution, even during short periods of time when satellite signals are blocked or unavailable.

  • Averna Emulator Receives Four-Diamond Ranking from Cable Industry

Averna, developer of test solutions and services for communications and electronics device-makers worldwide, today announced it has received a Broadband Technology Report (BTR) Diamond Technology Review ranking of 4 “Diamonds” for its DOCSIS Channel Emulator (DCE).

Now in its ninth year, the BTR Diamond Technology Reviews is a renowned industry program that was developed to recognize some of the top products and solutions available to the cable industry as determined by a distinguished panel of cable telecommunications engineering experts. Engineering executives from Boyer Broadband, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Suddenlink Communications, Comcast, Charter and Cox were among the third-party judges for the 2013 Diamonds. The judges had this to say about Averna’s DCE:

    • “A handy and cost-effective solution for equipment manufacturers to test and validate new DOCSIS products that use bonded channels. MSOs may also have an interest in the product for validating new modem modulation profiles or their own internal product validation efforts.”
    • “Improved DOCSIS performance testing capabilities, at lower cost and with smaller footprint, for equipment manufacturers and network operators.”
    • “A creative way to test DOCSIS networks.”

Averna’s DOCSIS Channel Emulator (DCE) is a small-footprint channel-emulation platform that helps device makers ensure that their DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS products deliver optimum performance in the field. It is capable of acquiring, impairing and generating up to 24 downstream (DS) channels in real time.

The DCE’s flexible FPGA-based design is powered by National Instruments’ vector signal transceiver (VST), which enables Averna to increase the number of supported channels without increasing the DCE’s hardware footprint. The DCE helps users ensure that their equipment meets standards such as the SCTE 40 specifications or MSO-specific configurations. Furthermore, the DCE’s software-based approach and modular architecture protect the client’s investment, allowing them to easily cover both current and future test needs.

“We are proud to achieve such a high score in the Diamond Technology Reviews,” said Jean-Levy Beaudoin, VP Sales, West USA and Latin America, for Averna. “As the DOCSIS industry moves to high channel counts, the DOCSIS Channel Emulator is the first test instrument specifically developed for this new environment, enabling testing that was not economically and technically possible before. Broadband device makers can now increase test coverage and accelerate testing, improving product quality and time-to-market.”

“Averna’s RP-5300 is the leading commercial product offering two 50-MHz wide channels that can capture such a wide range of real-world RF signals, complete with the interference and general degradation that end-users will experience. Two units can even be interconnected to enable a 4-channel, phase-coherent synchronized recorder,” commented Brendan Wolfe, director of Market Development for Averna. “The ESA is using the latest technology available and we are thrilled that our products have been chosen for this important undertaking.”

“Averna’s advanced record-and-playback systems support our pressing needs for long and extensive data-collection campaigns in the field,” said M. Crisci, Head of the Radio Navigation Systems and Techniques Section at the European Space Agency. “Averna’s R&P solution enables us to record multiple wideband signals at the same time, over a wide frequency range, and then replay the signals repeatedly. As receivers become more and more sophisticated, it is imperative that real-world signals and conditions be recreated for thorough validation and testing.”

Galileo is Europe’s program for a global navigation satellite system (GNSS), providing a highly accurate, guaranteed global positioning service, interoperable with the U.S. GPS and Russian GLONASS systems. It currently has four satellites in service and upon completion it will consist of 30 satellites and ground infrastructure. The Galileo system is a collaboration between the European Union and the ESA.

  • Averna Wins 2013 DesignVision Award

Averna, developer of test solutions and services for communications and electronics device makers worldwide, today announced that its Proligent Analytics has been honored with a DesignVision award for most innovative verification tool of the year.

The awards ceremony took place on January 29, in Santa Clara, California, during the 2013 DesignCon show. The DesignVision awards, handed out annually, honor the most innovative design tools in the electronics industry. Winners were selected based on three criteria: how well the product met the market’s vision and offered unique insight into customer needs; the originality of the solution and if it offered a new approach to meeting market needs; and the quality of the implementation and how well it fits the market requirements.

Proligent Analytics gives OEMs a tool to centrally monitor and control manufacturing test operations across their supply chain. Version 6.0, released in August 2012, includes enhancements that provide easier navigation of test and quality data, broader reporting, and alarm capabilities for improved and quicker root-cause analysis.

“We had quite a challenging time choosing these winners among all of the innovative products we judged,” said Patrick Mannion, Content Director and Brand Director EDN, Test & Measurement World & Planet Analog. “Ultimately, our 2013 winners represent the best of the best in each of their respective industries.”

“With contract manufacturers and service centers dispersed across the globe, test data is often scattered across multiple sites and can require months to gather and transform it into useful information. Such delays can lead to significant quality-related issues. Proligent Analytics was designed specifically to offer product designers better access to their test data and give them important visibility regarding product development,” said Eric Lamontagne, Team Leader Proligent Analytics for Averna. “We are honored that Proligent Analytics was recognized with this prestigious award. It is a validation of our efforts.”
