    Net Insight leads development of next-generation PNT technology

    Focusing on timing synchronization, the project is supported by ESA NAVISP on behalf of the Swedish National Space Agency to advance resilient timing and positioning.

    Net Insight has been awarded a development project through the European Space Agency’s Navigation Innovation and Support Program (NAVISP), a European program designed to foster innovation in the PNT domain and strengthen Europe’s technological competitiveness. 

    The project, co-funded by the Swedish National Space Agency, aims to accelerate the development of robust positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) technology, to address growing societal needs and increase risks to critical infrastructure.

    Precise timing signals are a critical component of everything from telecommunications and 5G networks to transportation and energy systems. Traditionally, GNSS systems such as GPS and Galileo have been the standard for time synchronization. However, today’s geopolitical landscape and the increasing prevalence of disruptions such as jamming and spoofing highlight the need for robust, complementary solutions that can ensure reliable operation under all conditions, according to Net Insight.

    “This initiative exemplifies how the Swedish space industry can contribute to addressing complex European challenges related to critical infrastructure,” said Christer Nilsson, vice director general of the Swedish National Space Agency. “Combining Swedish technical excellence with European collaboration is a powerful model for strengthening robustness and operational reliability within PNT.”

    “Society depends on technologies that are not only advanced, but also robust and operationally reliable, and capable of withstanding disruptions and external interference,” said Per Lindgren, group CTO and head of synchronization at Net Insight. “With this project, we are strengthening the development of solutions that can deliver reliable time synchronization even under demanding conditions, thereby securing critical infrastructure for the future.”

    Through collaboration with the Swedish National Space Agency and ESA’s NAVISP program, the project gains access to both national and European funding and support for research and development in PNT technology. At the same time, it enables national initiatives to be aligned with broader European strategies for robust and operationally reliable PNT architectures.

    NAVISP is designed to stimulate new technologies and applications beyond traditional GNSS-based systems and plays a key role in Europe’s efforts to ensure robust and competitive PNT solutions.

    Net Insight launches Zyntai TimeNode 3100E for enhanced GNSS resilience

    Net Insight has launched TN3100E, a TimeNode in the Zyntai family built for markets that demand enhanced timing resilience in challenging environments. The TN3100E delivers multiband GNSS for superior accuracy, supports India’s GNSS IRNSS/NavIC, and adds advanced anti-jamming and anti-spoofing features.

    The TN3100E is the latest TimeNode hardware unit in the Zyntai product family. It provides enhanced GNSS functionalities designed for markets that depend on GNSS as time source in challenging environments where robust protection against interference is essential.

    The TN3100E introduces new capabilities for Improved anti-jamming and anti-spoofing. TN3100E fully supports the Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA) used by Galileo to verify signal authenticity. This, together with Net Insight’s time-based anti-spoofing techniques, enables the TN3100E to deliver a high level of anti-spoofing protection.

    Türk Telekom claims first 5G network without GNSS timing

    Türk Telekom is using specialized GPS/GNSS-independent technology to provide critical time and frequency synchronization in its 5G network.

    The technology  — developed by Türk Telekom engineers with Net Insight — is expected to significantly reduce synchronization investment costs and increase service continuity in 5G. The companies did not reveal the details of their technology.

    Türk Telekom, the pioneer of digital transformation in Türkiye, continues its efforts to shape the future with 5G and new generation technologies. Türk Telekom became the first operator in the world to implement the “Time Synchronization Transmission Solution,” implemented in cooperation with Net Insight, one of the world’s leading technology companies, on its network. This solution, which is the patented technology developed by Türk Telekom and Net Insight, will provide strategic superiority in network technologies.

    Minimum end-to-end deviation throughout Turkey

    The testing process of the GPS/GNSS-independent stable synchronization service for 5G has been successfully completed. Türk Telekom, which has installed the system at 20 locations in Turkey, will have a central synchronization network with high time accuracy, and will be able to offer synchronization service to 5G base stations.

    While the highest time deviation value for 5G is 1,500 nanoseconds, the deviation value was measured at 5–45 nanoseconds in two different regions of Türkiye, according to the first data obtained from the Türk Telekom live network. The values revealed that sensitive time and synchronization information can be carried from Edirne to Hakkari, the entire length of Türkiye, with minimum deviation regardless of network equipment.

    Solution to increase efficiency and save resources

    “We became the first operator to implement the next-generation synchronization solution, developed together with Net Insight and leveraging patents of Turkish engineers, which is critical for 5G and beyond technologies on the live network,” said Yusuf Kıraç, Türk Telekom chief technology officer. “We see a significant potential in the global market for this innovative solution that will reduce costs and increase service continuity for mobile operators and all industries with critical time synchronization requirements.

    “We can meet all these needs with this solution, which has a time deviation far below 1,500 nanosecond required for the synchronization need of 5G,” Kıraç continued. “We are proud to develop new satellite-independent solutions for operators and standardization organizations in the world.”

    “We believe that this solution, which is operated on the Türk Telekom network for the first time in the world, will break new ground in 5G and have a high and significant market potential on a global scale,” said Net Insight CEO Crister Fritzson.

    Important step for 5G and beyond

    The new-generation time synchronization solution, which is not depending on GPS/GNSS satellites, offers unique advantages for transmitting phase and time synchronization over the network without the need to replace or update existing network equipment. With this technology, a fundamental solution to GPS/GNSS satellites’ signal interruptions and service losses — one of the biggest needs of operators who have switched to 5G — will be met, the companies said.

    At the same time, the synchronization needs of 6G technologies — planned to begin global standardization studies in 2025 — will be met with the same solution.

    The patented technology will be produced and marketed all over the world and will provide solutions for sectors such as telecommunications, energy and finance.

    Net Insight partners with Meinberg on time synchronization solutions

    Net Insight’s sync solution becomes fully PTP-standard compliant with synchronization module for 5G and other mission-critical networks

    NetInsight logoNet Insight has selected Meinberg’s precision time protocol (PTP) software stack — Precision TimeNet — to implement full PTP functionality in all of its platforms.

    The Precision TimeNet solution offers a GNSS-independent delivery of high-accuracy timing across any IP vendor network, which can significantly reduce the cost and rollout times of 5G and other mission-critical networks.

    In 2021, Meinberg also delivered a synchronization module to Net Insight’s Nimbra MSR 300 series, providing full PTP IEEE 1588v2 interoperability and GNSS integration for 5G networks. The new module is part of the Nimbra Time Node, an important component of the Precision TimeNet solution.

    Net Insight licensed the PTP stack from Oregano Systems, owned by Meinberg, to deliver network synchronization for both media and 5G networks. Meinberg leverages Net Insight’s network synchronization capabilities to serve customers across the telecom, fintech, government, and power telecom industries. The expansion into a strategic technology partnership means that both companies will utilize their expertise in time synchronization to deploy solutions that remove the challenges of reliable precision timing over any IP network.
