  • C-V2X module powers smart truck project at Shanghai Port

    Quectel Wireless Solutions has partnered with SAIC Motor, Shanghai International Port and China Mobile to install its C-V2X modules on trucks to conduct smart truck trials for the shipping industry.

    Developed by SAIC Motor, the heavy smart trucks are powered by advanced technologies, including 5G, V2X and AI, to achieve 5G L4-level intelligent driving at the port. Each truck has been equipped with “senses” to detect the external environment and cope with unexpected situations such as crosswinds, obstacles in the road or pedestrian traffic. After arriving at the destination, the vehicles can also dock in target locations.

    Quectel C-V2X modules AG15 were integrated in the trucks to help identify and communicate with roadside units such as gates and traffic lights, greatly improving driving safety and efficiency.

    According to McKinsey and Company, the automation of ports has proved safer, more cost-effective and efficient than conventional ones. However, the adoption of automation remains slow compared to other sectors. One reason is the high upfront costs associated with automation and difficulties in ensuring effective operations.

    The introduction of 5G provides port owners with an unprecedented opportunity to embrace automation to reduce costs by 25-55% and raise productivity by up to 10-35%, according to the same report.

    Modules, such as the Quectel C-V2X portfolio, offer even more significant cost-effectiveness and flexibility than conventional forms of investment in automation as they can be custom-installed to meet automakers’ or port authorities’ requirements.

    Additionally, Quectel’s AG520R module integrating LTE+C-V2X technologies has supported over 30 automotive customers in product design. The 5G+C-V2X module AG550Q is currently under development and compatible with AG520R in both HW/SW, ensuring a smoother migration from LTE to 5G, which means that the future of automation is now just a module away.

    Quectel Wireless Solutions has completed a data call over its 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) module that fully complies with 3GPP Release 15 5G NR standards.

    The 5G data call on Sept. 25 was made over a Quectel RM510Q-GL 5G module based on Keysight’s 5G testing device in a lab, paving the way for the upcoming 5G mmWave field tests and commercial deployment of 5G internet of things (IoT) projects.

    In addition, the move is a testament to Quectel’s leadership in 5G research and development capability and IoT innovations.

    Tailored for IoT/eMBB (enhanced mobile broadband) applications, Quectel RM510Q-GL features the Snapdragon X55 5G modem and supports mmWave and sub-6 GHz frequencies in both 5G standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) operations.

    The M.2 module covers nearly all the mainstream carriers worldwide. Designed backward compatible with LTE-A and 3G networks, RM510Q-GL integrates multi-constellation GNSS receiver, eSIM, as well as high-speed interfaces such as USB 3.1 and PCIe 3.0, which make it suitable for globally deployed mobile devices including Always Connected PCs (ACPC), industrial PDAs, mobile gateways and more.

    AsusTek Computer Inc., a Taipei-based multinational computer company, is planning to use RM510Q-GL for its next-generation 5G mmWave laptops, according to Quectel. Leveraging its industry leading 5G modules and local technical support, Quectel will accelerate the time-to-market for AsusTek to enhance its competitiveness in the 5G era.

    Quectel will showcase commercial 5G modules at the Qualcomm 5G Summit in Barcelona, Oct. 14-16, and MWC Los Angeles (Booth 1236), Oct. 22-24.

    Quectel Wireless Solutions Co. Ltd., in association with STMicroelectronics, has released the LG69T module, an automotive-grade dual-band high-precision GNSS module that integrates dead-reckoning (DR) and real-time kinematic (RTK) technologies.

    The new Quectel module, announced at 2019 Apsara Conference in Hangzhou, is designed to facilitate open-sky positioning performance with an accuracy of up to 10 centimeters, which is currently the industry’s most advanced positioning technology for the automotive market. LG69T will support next-generation precision positioning capabilities for smart vehicles and autonomous driving scenarios.

    The Quectel LG69T GNSS module is based on ST’s STA8100GA, the latest Automotive-grade dual frequency positioning chip with 80 tracking channels and four rapid-acquisition channels that are compatible with many constellations: GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, NAVIC/IRNSS and QZSS.

    It is an AEC-Q100-qualified dual-band (L1 + L5) GNSS module that integrates multi-band RTK technology for centimeter-level accuracy.

    The LG69T module’s dead-reckoning capabilities feature an integrated inertial measurement unit (IMU) that provides continuous high-precision positioning. The LG69T supports corrections input for standard Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services (RTCM) and centimeter-level navigation by using RTCM data from a third — local base stations. The module performs well under the highly challenging conditions of urban canyon environments.

    Engineering samples of Quectel’s LG69T module will be offered to automakers and Tier 1 suppliers by the end of 2019, and the product will be commercially available around mid-2020 and is expected to be deployed in mass produced models as early as 2021.

    Quectel Wireless Solutions has launched a compact dual-band GNSS module, the LC79D, that supports the L1 and L5 bands from navigation satellites to improve positioning accuracy.

    Featuring concurrent multi-constellation GNSS receivers on dual GNSS bands, LC79D uses L1 and L5 bands for GPS, Galileo and QZSS satellites, L1 band for GLONASS and BeiDou satellites, and L5 band for IRNSS satellites.

    Compared to GNSS modules that use the L1 band only, LC79D can generally increase the number of visible satellites, significantly improve positioning drifting when driving in rough urban canyons and enhance positioning accuracy.

    Embedded with a low-noise amplifier (LNA) and multi-tone active interference, the module provides higher sensitivity and reliable anti-jamming capability, ensuring exceptional acquisition and tracking performance even in weak signal areas. Multiple communication interfaces including UART and SPI simplify customer designs and accelerate time-to-market for customers’ products at reduced costs.

    With dimensions of 10.1 × 9.7 ×2.4 millimeters, the tiny LC79D meets the requirements of size-sensitive applications. Compact design, low power consumption and high performance make it suitable for vehicle, people and asset tracking as well as sharing economy applications.

    “The launch of LC79D shows Quectel’s global leading position to provide positioning modules for applications requiring higher accuracy and reliability, especially in rough environments with weak signals,” said Wang Min, automotive and GNSS product director at Quectel. “LC79D gives customers high-level integration and flexibility to realize precise positioning in real time.”

    The LC79D module was showcased at MWC Shanghai 2019 during June 26-28.

    Quectel Wireless Solutions has launched a compact dead-reckoning GNSS module, the L26-DR.

    The module was introduced at the Electronica 2018 show, held Nov. 13-16 in Munich, Germany.

    As the latest addition to Quectel’s GNSS portfolio, L26-DR is a concurrent multi-GNSS receiver module embedded with dead-reckoning solution, which greatly improves the positioning accuracy and speed while simplifying customer designs, the company said.

    The dead-reckoning capability ensures the module delivers the highest performance positioning solution available, even when GNSS signal is absent or compromised, the company said.

    Equipped with six-axis sensor MEMs and a powerful GNSS core, the module provides high sensitivity, fast GNSS signal acquisition and tracking with low system integration effort.

    Moreover, the built-in low-noise amplifier offers the module with improved RF sensitivity and exceptional acquisition and tracking performances even in weak signal areas.

    L26-DR is able to acquire and track any mix of GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS signals, which allows accurate navigation in harsh environments such as urban canyons, the company added. Compared with using GPS only, enabling multiple GNSS systems generally increases the number of visible satellites, reduces the time to first fix and improves positioning accuracy, especially when driving in rough urban environments.

    Designed for automotive and industrial applications, the L26-DR comes in an ultra-compact size of 12.2 × 16.0 × 2.3 millimeters. The compact GNSS module also supports other precise positioning technologies, including differential GPS (RTCM) and SBAS (WAAS/EGNOS/MSAS/GAGAN).

    According to the company, engineering samples of Quectel L26-DR will be available in December.

    Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global supplier of internet of things (IoT) modules, has launched the EG18, an LTE Category 18, high-speed module that offers 1.2Gbps downlink and 150Mbps uplink peak rates.

    The EG18 supports Qualcomm IZat location technology Gen8C Lite (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS). The integrated GNSS greatly simplifies product design, and provides quicker, more accurate and more dependable positioning capability, Quectel said.

    Based on Qualcomm’s SDX20 chipset and fully compliant with 3GPP R12 specification, EG18 supports wireless technologies such as carrier aggregation (CA), 4×4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology and 256QAM.

    Quectel EG18 is a series of LTE Advanced modules optimized specially for M2M and IoT applications which support industrial operating temperature range of -40 to 85˚C.

    The EG18 is designed for ultra-high-speed industrial routers, in-vehicle video surveillance systems, cloud-based 4K IP-cameras and other applications that require very high throughput and low latency.

    EG25-G module. Quectel also launched an LTE Cat 4 module to provide global connectivity on up to 30 bands with LTE, 3G and 2G coverage all from a single SKU. This “all-in-one” module EG25-G is designed to improve the efficiency of global IoT deployment at optimized cost.

    EG25-G is the latest addition to Quectel’s comprehensive LTE portfolio based on Qualcomm MDM9x07 chipset. Adopting the 3GPP Release 11 LTE technology, it delivers 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink peak data rates, with an optional GNSS receiver including GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS to provide quick and accurate positioning, the company said.

    The new module supports FDD LTE frequency bands of B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B13/B18/B19/B20/B25/B26/B28, TDD LTE bands of B38/B39/B40/B41, WCDMA bands of B1/B2/B4/B5/B6/B8/B19 and quad-band GSM/EDGE. This ensures devices with EG25-G inside can operate on networks of major global carriers like AT&T, Verizon, Telstra, Vodafone and T-Mobile. The EG25-G supports multi-carrier switch by detecting (U)SIM card.

    Designed in a compact LGA form factor measuring 29.0×32.0×2.4 mm, EG25-G is pin-compatible with Quectel’s EC2X family, allowing flexible migration. It also offers Mini PCIe form factor with built-in sim card holder to provide a better plug-and-play experience.

Our EG25-G was created to address such needs,” said Delbert Sun, Quectel product and marketing director. “We are pleased to see that customers will achieve simplified production and testing processes, and save distribution costs due to the need for just one single SKU.”

    EG25-G has a rich set of Internet protocols, industry-standard interfaces, abundant functionalities and extended life cycle, and is designed for verticals including industrial routers, industrial PDA and video surveillance.

    Quectel Wireless Solutions has launched the MC90, a quad-band GSM/GPRS/GNSS/Wi-Fi module.

    According to the company, the module supports hybrid positioning technologies including GNSS, Cell ID and Wi-Fi aided positioning, and enables position tracking in both indoor and outdoor environments.

    Quectel’s MC90 integrates the multi-GNSS system, including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS, which makes it suitable for urban areas with high-rise buildings and complex environments, the company added.

    The MC90 also adopts Wi-Fi hotspot positioning technology for blind spots and satellite coverage. It integrates multi-aiding positioning technologies to offer customers with optimized GNSS performance. It also supports EPO technology, which provides predicted Extended Prediction Orbit to speed up TTFF without the need of any extra server.

    The MC90 features a compact design, low power consumption and supports dual SIM single standby function. According to Quectel, it can be used for a wide range of internet of things applications, including bicycle sharing, student ID card, vehicle tracker, wearable device, pet tracker, asset tracker, driving recorder and more.
