  • Navitel Map of Vietnam Now Available

    Navitel’s navigation map of Vietnam is now available for purchase.

    The map of Vietnam has been developed in cooperation with DDG Technology JSC, a provider of cartographic solutions for navigation in Vietnam.

    The map contains 325,972 kilometers of road graph, 147,255 Points Of Interest (POI) and 86,370 settlements. Coupled with the address search in residential and industrial areas of settlements, the map includes the detailed road network with streets, directions, interchanges, roundabouts and other important road information.

    The map contains 10 three-dimensional POI, including St. Joseph’s Cathedral, the VNPT Tower, the Vimeco tower block, Diamond Plaza, Kumho Asiana Plaza, the Petrovietnam Tower and more.

  • DT Research Rolls out Mapping and GIS Tablets

    DT Research Inc. has launched a new line of rugged tablets with the GNSS modules for surveying and mapping applications. The DT391GS, DT395GS and DT307GS rugged tablets feature integrated high-accuracy GNSS receiver modules with built-in antenna for seamless data capture, the company said.

    Built to travel and provide reliable operations in the real world, the tablets are designed for field work in mapping, geographic information systems (GIS), and accurate synchronization, tracking and networking.

    The DT391GS combines a 9-inch sunlight-readable, capacitive touch display with an energy-efficient Intel dual-core processor in a compact, durable package. With the high-accuracy GNSS module options (Hemisphere or Trimble), the foldable antenna, and Windows or Android operating system. The DT391GS also offers protection in demanding environments with IP65 and MIL-STD-810G ratings for dust and water, and shock and vibration resistance.

    The DT395GS offers a 9-inch sunlight-readable capacitive touch screen, an energy efficient Intel dual-core processor, and a choice of Windows or Android operating systems. The GNSS positioning module has u-blox GNSS module. The IP65 rating, and military-standard MILSTD-810G and MIL-STD-461F ratings, as well as wide temperature range, make the DT395GS reliable even in harsh, mission-critical environments.

    The DT307GS GNSS tablet features a brilliant 7-inch capacitive touch screen and a quad-core, energy efficient processor with a built-in, high-accuracy u-blox GNSS module. The size and weight of the DT307GS make this tablet portable for long-term handling in the field, DT Research said.

    All of the DT Research Rugged GS Tablets offer hot-swappable batteries for continuous operation, enabling real-time project efficiency between staff in the field and in the office. With wireless support for Bluetooth, 802.11, WCDMA and HSPA+ connectivity and optional GSM networking, the tablets keep staff connected from any location.

    The DT391GS and DT395GS have Trusted Processing Module (TPM) encryption for security support, and a choice of Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7 or 7 Professional, or Android operating system making these tablets flexible to integrate with existing applications.

    An optional 5-megapixel camera offers another data capture tool to record visual information, and an optional 3G cellular data module provides data connectivity for navigation and real-time data transfer, DT Research said.

  • Geofeedia and IDV Solutions Form Technical Partnership

    IDV Solutions’ Visual Command Center is a physical security and risk visualization (PSRV) software that unites data from external sources, enterprise systems and internal devices into a real-time, common operating picture of risk and security.

    IDV Solutions, a corporation that specializes in business intelligence, physical security and risk visualization software, has formed a technical partnership with Geofeedia, producer of a cloud-based social media monitoring platform. Through the partnership, Geofeedia’s location-based social media monitoring data will now be integrated into IDV Solutions’ Visual Command Center Enterprise Risk Visualization (ERV) software.

    The companies say the combination of the two technologies enables security, supply chain and business continuity teams to gain instant intelligence from multiple social media networks for a myriad of risk events — from a political demonstration to a natural disaster. The location-based visualization filters out excess noise to show important social media posts in the context of locations of interest, such as facilities, employee locations, supply routes or traveling executives.

    “Companies are looking for ways to efficiently gain actionable intelligence from social media,” said Ian Clemens, chief technology officer and co-founder of IDV Solutions. “The immediacy of social media combined with the alerting and locational context offered by Visual Command Center enables organizations to make more effective use of social media to protect employees, facilities and business continuity.”

    The Visual Command Center provides a real-time, common operating picture of assets, personnel and operations in relation to potential threats to those assets. It unites information on global sources of risk — such as weather, terrorism and natural disasters — with data from internal data stores and physical security systems on an interactive map and timeline. When a risk is detected near an asset or employee location, the Visual Command Center automatically generates an alert and provides tools to assess whether the risk is a threat and take immediate action to mitigate the impact of the threat.

    The Geofeedia integration complements the Visual Command Center’s Twitter Visualization and Alerting Module by providing information from more social media networks and visualizing all posts within a selected area.

    Geofeedia enables organizations to filter and analyze social media content by location in real time across multiple sources. Users search for a city, address or location name, draw a virtual perimeter around the specific area of interest,and access geo-tagged social media content from within those boundaries.

  • Esri Launches AppStudio for ArcGIS App Challenge

    Esri launched the beta version of its AppStudio for ArcGIS and is requesting submissions for its App Challenge by May 1.

    With AppStudio for ArcGIS, users can build their own ArcGIS native apps that will automatically run on Android, iOS, Windows, OS X and Linux platforms. Existing ArcGIS can be made into consumer-friendly apps for the Google Play and Apple app stores. There also are app templates to create map galleries and crowd-sourcing apps.

    To enter the contest, email the video to Esri with a short write-up, company name and signed official rules. The builder of the best app will be announced by Esri on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and may be featured on the Esri website.

    Since AppStudio for ArcGIS leverages the power of the ArcGIS Runtime, users can build their own native apps featuring advanced GIS capabilities such as offline visualization, editing, querying and analysis. It also includes a utility called AppStudio Player that will enables users to easily share their own apps within their organizations or companies.

    AppStudio for ArcGIS Beta was introduced at Esri’s 2015 Developer Summit, held March 10-13 in Palm Springs, Calif.

  • PocketGIS for Android Now on Available

    Pocket Systems Ltd. has released PocketGIS for AndroidPocketGIS is a professional mobile geographical information system for field data capture and surveying, which can capture and edit map geometry and enter data using forms.

    PocketGIS runs on Android 4.0 and later and is designed for tablet and handheld screens.

    GPS/GNSS. PocketGIS can be linked to a device’s internal GPS or GNSS receiver, or an external receiver via Bluetooth. This provides real-time location tracking and data capture. The GPS position is projected to the chosen coordinate system in real time offering instant verification of survey results.

    The GPS trail function specifies a time or distance interval to automatically create points from the current GPS position. This let’s users capture points automatically while walking a line or route. Advanced settings allow filtering of GPS quality to ensure the accuracy of captured points. Users can also take an average of a number for GPS position readings and compensate for antenna heights. National grid datum corrections are supported, and these are added on request (such as OSTN02, ETRS89, RH2000 and OSGM02).

    PocketGIS can be connected to a laser rangefinder or total station and provides a comprehensive set of laser survey functions. The laser functions integrate with GPS to survey offset positions and calculate height differences. Photographs can be taken from within the data-collection form using the device’s built-in camera to link the picture to captured points, lines or areas.

    Edit, Measure, Search. Users can tap on points, lines areas or text (features) to display and update information. Users can measure distances or areas and display grid references, move points and edit lines, and search for data by type or value.

    Data Exchange. PocketGIS can import and export data from cloud services such as Dropbox or Google Drive or via email. Shape, Comma Separated Values (CSV) and TIFF raster are supported. Additional formats will be supported in the future. Users can specify capture features, design data capture forms and customize imported data from within the application. No additional software or servers are required.

    PocketGIS was first released in 1997 or the Newton MessagePad. Having run on a succession of Windows CE devices, PocketGIS has evolved again and is now available for Android.

  • Nat Geo to Offer Trail Maps on Avenza PDF Maps App

    On the 100th anniversary of National Geographic’s Cartographic Division, National Geographic Maps will make available hundreds of maps from its Trails Illustrated line through Avenza Systems Inc.’s PDF Maps app.

    The addition of these outdoor recreation maps in North America augments the PDF Maps app digital map database by incorporating trail maps. It also increases National Geographic Maps’ reach within the mobile consumer market, giving more consumers access to the Trails Illustrated line. Trail maps from many of America’s national parks have already been uploaded to the app, including Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Zion and Great Smoky Mountains.

    With many Ranger Districts throughout the country discontinuing visitor services, Avenza’s PDF Maps app provides an alternative for outdoor enthusiasts planning a trip in remote areas where Internet service is not always available to stream detailed map content. Using National Geographic’s line of detailed recreation maps, PDF Maps app users can purchase, download and save maps on GPS-enabled devices such as Android- and iOS-based phones and tablets. Park visitors can use the app to find and mark location directly on the downloaded National Geographic map. Features include location tagging, dropping waypoints/pinpoints on points of interest, attaching images and notes, and tracking routes, distance and elevation — all while offline.

  • SuperPad GIS App to Receive NTRIP Solution

    SuperPad_NTRIPGIS software provider Supergeo will release an NTRIP solution on SuperPad, its Windows Mobile GIS app, for high-accuracy field data collection and geospatial workflow enhancement.

    SuperPad is a feature-rich mobile GIS application for field-based personnel to collect, edit, display and measure spatial data. The flexible development environment and customized extensions enable users to create a custom platform. SuperPad supports synchronizing data with an enterprise’s server to improve efficiency.

    SuperPad version 3.3 will support an NTRIP solution with RTK technology. Real-time kinematic (RTK) satellite navigation, one of the latest and widely used technologies within the field of differential GNSS, significantly enhances the precision of the positioning data. RTK positioning can raise accuracy to the centimeter-level.

    With the NTRIP solution, SuperPad is not only be capable of handling post-process DGNSS workflow, but also allows users to connect to network RTK service providers with NTRIP protocol, such as a virtual reference station RTK service provider or private station services. Its operations for turning on the module and quick-to-use settings will save surveyors time, while supporting GNSS receivers from makers such as  u-blox, Hemisphere GNSS and NovAtel.

    Progress of the SuperPad NTRIP Extension is also visualized as a condition monitoring informer on the map intuitively.   • Agency9 Brings WebGL Streaming of 3D Cities to iOS and Android

    Agency9, a provider of online 3D visualization, is extending its 3DMaps WebGL support to iOS and Android devices. Large, highly detailed 3D city models can now be streamed to web browsers on both tablets and smartphones with both high performance and visual quality, the company said.

    Mobile support substantially improves reach in GIS and planning applications, Agency9 said. Using WebGL and HTML5 improves usability with plugin-free viewing of 3D directly in a web browser, eliminating the need to download and install dedicated apps.

    Most WebGL 3D solutions on the market are pure “model viewers,” limited to show a CAD model and its closest surroundings or simple untextured LOD 1,2 models. Agency9 3DMaps is capable of smoothly visualizing large scale terrain and detailed textured building models on a national or global basis. For example, huge photorealistic 3D models created with tools such as Smart3DCapture by Acute3D, recently acquired by Bentley Systems, can now be published online using WebGL without limitation in size or resolution, the company said.

  • TerraGo Partners with RazorTek on TerraGo Edge

    TerraGo is partnering with RazorTek, a GIS and remote-sensing consulting firm specializing in design, development and automation of complex systems for spatial data display and analysis. RazorTek will deploy TerraGo Edge for customers looking to replace GPS handhelds with a mobile app that integrates directly with Esri’s ArcGIS.

    “We see a great opportunity to help our customers utilize TerraGo Edge for field data collection on their smartphones and tablets,” said Dan Rodriguez, CEO, RazorTek. “The nice thing about TerraGo Edge is that it replaces proprietary GPS handhelds with a simple mobile solution at a fraction of the cost, and it works seamlessly with Esri ArcGIS out of the box.”

  • Routescene Showcases 3D LiDAR at ILMF in Denver

Routescene is based in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

    The flexible LidarPod was developed for use on unmanned aerial vehicles, but can also be fitted onto any mobile platform such as a car or boat. The flexibility makes it attractive for many sectors and situations where accurate mapping is essential but difficult to achieve, enabling surveys to be conducted in areas that previously would not have been considered, Routescene said.

LidarPod 3D can be used for 3D mapping; powerline inspection; scoping, planning and management of mines; forestry design, management and operation; large-scale topographic surveys; and city planning and management.

    Routescene LidarPod costs less than a vehicle-based mobile mapping system, Routescene said. The turnkey solution includes LidarViewer, specially developed software to turn the raw data into valuable business information. It enables users to convert, analyze and filter huge volumes of point cloud data to improve productivity and workflow. Powerful filters enable users to extract relevant data for use in third party software, such as GIS and CAD packages, which are unable to cope with such large data volumes.

  • Connect with Bluetooth GNSS Devices Using SuperSurv

  • Esri Offers Online Seminar on Collector for ArcGIS

    Esri is hosting an online seminar to familiarize customers with its Collector for ArcGIS app. Using the app can mean replacing paper-based data inspection and maintenance workflows with computerized ones that allow anyone in an organization to easily capture and update data from their tablet or smartphone when they’re out in the field.

    The Esri live training seminar Simplify Field Data Workflows with Collector for ArcGIS will be held on February 19. The presenters will demonstrate how the app, included with ArcGIS organizational accounts, can help organizations maintain accurate and up-to-date GIS data while making the information collection process easier and more efficient.

     After viewing the seminar, Esri says that participants will understand how to:

    • install Collector for ArcGIS on a smartphone or tablet and connect to an ArcGIS organization.
    • create and configure maps.
    • capture accurate feature locations and information efficiently.
    • attach notes, photographs, and videos to the data.
